Dr. Talmadge Wesley Alexander "Tom" Farmer, 85, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Julia Manor Health Care in Hagerstown.

Born June 17, 1922, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Franklin and Betha Edmonia (Lamp) Farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jenevieve M. (Green) Farmer. She died June 6, 2000.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School and Potomac State College of West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va., and graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago.


He maintained a private dental practice in Martinsburg until his retirement in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was of the Methodist Faith.

He served as a Martinsburg City Councilman, served for eight years on the Martinsburg City Planning Commission, and was a developer of the Chateau-Gai subdivision in Berkeley County.

He is survived by one daughter, Tamsen J. (Farmer) Molenda of Martinsburg; two sons, Dr. Thane S. Farmer of Martinsburg and Todd A. Farmer of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary E. Stalnaker of Martinsburg; one grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas T. Farmer and Earl F. Farmer.

Graveside services with military honors will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser, W.Va. The Rev. Ernest Lee Poland Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow.

Friends may call Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Keyser.
