Planners deny request to waive fire department site plan

July 25, 2007|By DAVE McMILLION

CHARLES TOWN, W.VA. - Jefferson County land planning officials Tuesday night denied a request to waive the county's site plan process for a new fire department in Bakerton.

Officials with the Bakerton Fire Department said they wanted a variance on the county's site plan process because they are trying to get their station built before winter arrives.

If the equipment is left outside and freezes, it cannot be used, department officials said.

Jefferson County Planning Commission members denied the request after planning commission staff members said they have never had a previous request like that before.

However, staff members said they would work with the fire department to expedite the approval process for the building, which is to be built on Carter Avenue in Bakerton.
