Lloyd Albertus Semler, 85, of 17423 Lexington Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Lloyd was born Nov. 26, 1921, at Taylors Landing, the son of the late Harry H. Sr. and Ida Mae Shrader Semler.

He was employed at the R. Paul Smith Power Plant, Potomac Edison Co., Williamsport, drove a school bus and was a self-employed barber in the Halfway area for many years.


Lloyd served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

Lloyd attended the Bakersville School as a child and was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion and the Western Maryland Sportsman's Club, both of Williamsport; a Charter Member of the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway, where he was honored with his induction into the "Order of the Sixth Bugle."

He built his own house by himself, and in his spare time, while driving the school bus and volunteering at the fire company.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Eloise K. Everly Semler, Hagerstown; a son, Lloyd R. Semler, Brentwood, Tenn.; granddaughter, Daphane J. Semler, Augusta, Ga.; two grandsons, Aaron C. Bromwell, Halfway, and Scott Lehigh, Pennsylvania; four sisters, Betty G. Butts, Halfway, Nancy J. Cronise, Boonsboro, Peggy V. Donegan, Hagerstown, and Winifred J. Vickers, Sharpsburg; and a brother, Joseph W. Semler, Clear Spring; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Sarah K. Eby, Gladys E. Williams, Hilda M. Baker and Evelyne G. Clouser; three brothers, Harold H. Semler, Roy E. Semler and Harry H. Semler Jr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with the Reverend Robert V. Robinson officiating. Burial with military honors by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown, will be held in Mt. View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 26, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
