Friday deadline to sign up for Farm and Home Safety Day

July 24, 2007

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - This Friday, July 27, is the deadline to sign up to attend the 2007 Franklin County Farm and Home Safety Day on Wednesday, Aug. 1.

The event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., is for youths, ages 7 and older. Admission costs $4 per person. It is being held at the Franklin County Fair Grounds.

The program is a "fun and effective way to teach youth about safety through hands-on demonstrations," said Jere Wingert, the county's Extension educator in agronomy and livestock.

He said youth will learn practical information on such topics as: disability awareness, storm/lightning safety, basic first aid, animal safety, firearm and knife safety, hidden hazards, tobacco use prevention, electric safety, handwashing/keeping healthy, and smoke house/fire truck. Also, they will see demonstrations showing ATV rollover safety, use of PTO/corn picker, and the work of a MedEvac Rescue helicopter.
