Aug. 3 deadline to enroll for DCP payment program

July 24, 2007

The Farm Service Agency is reminding farmers and other landowners with base acres and yields they have until Aug. 3 to enroll in the 2007 Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment Program.

"The deadline to enroll is rapidly approaching," said Colleen Cashell, executive director of the FSA office in Washington County. "I encourage all eligible producers to enroll in DCP before the Aug. 3 deadline to avoid paying the late fee."

Computer problems caused FSA to extend the deadline, set originally at June 1.

Producers failing to sign up by Aug. 3, but who do so before the Sept. 30 final date that enrollments will be allowed, will have to pay a $100 late fee, Cashell said.

DCP gives payments to eligible producers on farms enrolled for the 2002 through 2007 crop years.

There are two types of DCP payments - direct payments and counter-cyclical payments. USDA computes payments using the base acres and payment yields established for the farm.
