Henry R. Daily, 88

Henry Richmond (Hank) Daily, 88, died at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home on Saturday, July 21, 2007. He had Alzheimer's.

Mr. Daily grew up in Morristown, N.J.

He was a graduate of American University and the Merchant Marine Academy.

During World War II, he served five years in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Merchant Marine with duty on the Liberty ship. His patriotism to his country was one of the driving forces of his life.

After the war, Mr. Daily became a Marine underwriter with Aetna Life and Casualty Co. in New York, retiring after 36 years.

Mr. Daily's first wife was Edythe Steffen Daily. After her death, Mr. Daily looked for his friend from college days, whom he had not seen for 50 years. He found Adelaide Bushong Houghton, widow of Worthington B. Houghton, in Keedysville, Md., and they were married in 1990.

Mr. and Mrs. Daily made their home in Keedysville and at their waterfront home in Kilmarnock, Va. They also enjoyed extensive travel until Mr. Daily's illness caused them to move to Fahrney-Keedy in 2004.

Mr. Daily is survived by his wife, Adelaide Houghton Daily; by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Edwin Stahl, and his grandson, Brian Daily McQueen, of Stowe, Vt.; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ruth Daily of Jamison, Pa.; his sister, Eunice Daily Kempa of Hinsdale, Ill.; and his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy, of Hilton Head, S.C. and Morristown.

Mr. Daily is also survived by loving stepchildren, W. Bowie Houghton of Newport Beach, Calif., Elinor Houghton Kelly of McLean, Va., and Arthur C. Houghton of Boonsboro; and two stepgrandsons, Worthington B. Houghton III of Newport Beach and Christopher Houghton Kelly of Prescott, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in the Fahrney-Keedy Chapel, followed by a reception in the parlor. At a later date, inurnment will be held at Mendham Cemetery in Mendham, N.J.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, Benevolent Fund, 8507 Mapleville Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
