GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Peter P. Denkovich Sr., 81, of 12276 Nancy Ave., died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born June 1, 1926, in Nanty-Glo, Pa., he was the son of the late Alex and Teresa Vrabel Denkovich. He spent his early life in the Blairsville, Pa., area.

His wife, Edith Bertha Franzoni Denkovich, died Sept. 3, 2002. They were married Nov. 11, 1950.

He attended Blairsville area schools and was a graduate of Diesel Technical School, Pittsburgh.

He was employed as a salvage machinist for Mack Trucks, Hagerstown, from 1963 to 1988, when he retired.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Korean Theater as a paratrooper.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 171, Hagerstown.

He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Taylor of Virginia Beach, Va., and Tina Zomak of Greencastle; four sons, Richard P. Denkovich and Kevin J. Denkovich, both of Greencastle, Peter P. Denkovich Jr. of Chambersburg and Louis J. Denkovich of Hagerstown; two sisters, Katie Sracic and Margaret Bly, both of Blairsville; one brother, Alex Denkovich of Blairsville; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle.
