Dirty players compete in volleyball tournament

About 40 amateur volleyball teams served up slop Saturday at the 2007 Citi Mud Volleyball Tournament.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the Community Free Clinic in Hagerstown.

About 500 players were expected to participate in the seventh annual event held on Hagerstown Regional Airport property behind Citi's day-care center, said Robin Roberson, executive director of the Community Free Clinic.

The event raised $25,000 last year, she said.

The clinic uses the money raised to pay for the medical care and prescription medicines it offers free to uninsured Washington County residents, Roberson said.

Last year, the clinic dispensed more than 33,000 prescription medications and tallied more than 15,000 visits to the 249 Mill St. clinic in Hagerstown, she said.

"The bottom line, and the most important factor in all of this, is that (the fundraiser) is all for patient care, and proceeds go directly to clinic operations," Roberson said. "It is our largest fundraiser."
