RISING SUN, Md. - Connor Shockley's three-run homer for West Salisbury proved to be the fatal blow to Federal in a 7-5 loss in their first game in the Maryland 11-12 Tournament on Saturday.

Shockley led West Salisbury with three hits and four RBI, while Brian Kragler added two hits and two RBI.

Aaron Showe, Alex Courtney and Alijah Benson each homered for Federal, with Courtney and Benson each driving in a pair of runs. Philip Pietro started and went 3 1/3 innings, striking out 10. Showe, Charles Cvijanovich and Andrew Yacyk each had two hits.

Maryland 9-10 Tournament

Conococheague 14, Easton 2

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Jordan Stonebreaker had three hits, including a home run, and Conococheague advanced to the state semifinals with a four-inning victory.

Wyatt Scriever blasted a three-run home run for Conococheague. Jordan Buchanan had two hits and pitched all four innings.

Conococheague will play today at 5:30 p.m. at Cambridge Little League.

Two aces recorded

Shane Wollaston had his first hole-in-one on Saturday, using a 5-iron on the 185-yard sixth hole at Fountain Head Country Club. He was playing with Dan Fisher, Jeff Fisher and Dan Fisher Jr.

At Beaver Creek Country Club, Gretchen Van Hyning had her first hole-in-one, using a 5-rescue from the 140-yard women's tee on No. 14. She was playing with Margaret Perry and Dolores Monninger.

Grier misses cut

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Hagerstown's Ashley Grier posted a 6-over-par 77 for a two-round total of 143 and missed the 36-hole cut in the DURAMED Futures Tour Alliance Bank Golf Classic.

Grier shot 42-35, one day after opening the tournament with a 41-35-76.


Michael Lilley, 16, of Hagerstown, won the Bill Beckwith Memorial 5K in Smithsburg on Saturday in 16:20.
