William D. Heckman, 81

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - William D. Heckman, 81, of 5103 Lemar Road, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at his home.

Born Aug. 27, 1925, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late I. Elam and Ruth Straley Heckman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara E. Fetterhoff Heckman, in 1996. They were married July 29, 1950.

He was a 1943 graduate of Lemasters High School.

In his earlier years, he was employed by the former Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church in Greencastle, Pa.

He is survived by one son, Terry L. Heckman of Mercersburg; one brother, Robert H. Heckman of Mercersburg; three grandchildren, Kristopher Heckman, Katelyn Heckman and Bryant Heckman, all of Mercersburg; and his companion, Mary Cook of Mercersburg.


Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church in Greencastle. Pastor Eric Beck will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle and Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ebenezer United Brethren Church, 3661 Williamson Road, Greencastle, PA 17225.
