Water main break closes street

July 20, 2007

The 400 block of Jonathan Street was closed Thursday after a water main ruptured about 4:30 a.m., said Mike Spiker, director of utilities for the City of Hagerstown.

About 50 customers in the Jonathan Street and Summit Avenue area were without water Thursday morning, he said.

The 400 block of Jonathan Street was closed while the water main was repaired, which was expected to take about eight hours, Spiker said.

The water main was about 70 years old, but it was unclear what caused the rupture, he said.
