Water main break today affects about 50 customers in city

July 19, 2007

The 400 block of Jonathan Street was closed this morning after a water main in that block ruptured at about 4:30, said Mike Spiker, director of utilities for the City of Hagerstown.

About 50 customers in the Jonathan Street and Summit Avenue area were without water this morning, he said.

The water main was about 70 years old, but it was unclear what caused the rupture, Spiker said.

The 400 block of Jonathan Street was closed while the water main was repaired, which was expected to take about eight hours, he said.
