You Said It

"I would just like to say that my child really appreciated the counselor that dressed up as a gorilla at Marty Snook pool. We think it's just really nice that they would entertain the kids like that with something so original and fun." - Hagerstown

"I want to say a huge thank you to whoever brought Taylor Hicks to The Maryland Theatre. Great show, great experience. He was so wonderful out front, signing autographs for the children. They loved him, and we hope he comes back." - Hagerstown

"If a person pays a 2.5 percent processing fee to the credit card company for when they pay their property taxes, on a $2,000 property tax bill, that's $50. That's an outrage." - Hagerstown

"I am calling about immigration. All immigration, legal or illegal, needs to be stopped in this county, this state of Maryland and the United States of America. We are asking for many more problems. We are asking for terrible terrorist attacks. We are letting people in that are ill, very ill, and enough is enough." - Hagerstown

"I'm a business owner. I just wanted to mention that there are two deputies here that are out and about, constantly going in and out of businesses, they have solved many crimes, major crimes here. They communicate with the children on the streets, the families. I think they're doing an awesome job. I feel that many people use this medium right now to complain against the current administration, and I don't think that's fair, that they should take their complaints to Town Hall and not use a medium like this to create such negativity. Williamsport is a wonderful place. I'm loving my business here, I'm loving the people, and I feel that it's going up and not down, and that I just think it's great. All this negative publicity is wrong. You need to be here every day." - Williamsport

"This is in regards to the Hagerstown caller about the tractor-trailers going through the main streets of Hagerstown. Number one, what you don't realize is that most of the time these trucks are going through there because there are bad wrecks on the interstate, so instead of sitting through traffic for hours at a time, they cut through Hagerstown to get to another exit to get on. So pay attention to what's going on, because that's normally when you will see all these tractor-trailers. I know; I've come off the interstate with them, so I know what's going on." - Hagerstown

"O'Malley inherited a deficit of between $1.4 and $1.5 billion from Gov. Ehrlich, who inherited a deficit that wasn't quite that large from Parris Glendening. If you want to blame somebody for the state that Maryland is in at the moment, blame Glendening." - Hagerstown

"I'm wondering how many people, speeders in particular, are getting tickets on Franklin Street. The reason I ask, I live several blocks from Franklin Street in the West End, and every evening almost, between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., there are people drag racing out west of Hagerstown. I can hear it starting, usually probably around Devonshire and Nottingham, and can hear them racing out toward I-81, but I haven't seen anything in the paper about people drag racing and being caught. Just wondering." - Hagerstown

"I cannot believe the low percentage of people who are taking advantage of the recycling here in Hagerstown. It's just unbelievable the people that just don't participate in this. I think they said it was 11 percent, 11 to 17 percent of the people here in Hagerstown. Everything is given to you to recycle with. You don't even to do anything but just separate your newspapers and your plastics and your glass." - Hagerstown

"Thanks to The Herald-Mail for publishing the two volumes of 'Our Country Called.' They did a wonderful job." - Hagerstown

"I'm responding to the person about the recycling bins. I do understand why they removed the recycling bin from the Boonsboro area, because of misuse and abuse. However, I would like to suggest that they put another second recycling bin at the landfill substations so that we could recycle, and continue to recycle, and it's not possible because those are always full every time I go. Those are attended, and they could keep an eye to make sure we didn't give sofas and tires, etc. Also, another cardboard box for recycling. It would be good to keep our planet green." - Boonsboro

"I think a good pot of pinto beans and a pan of cornbread is just about the best food you can find anywhere. All those meals of cornbread and beans helped people make it through the bleak 1930s. They didn't have money, but they had faith and a purpose to survive." - Washington County

"It's nice to hear that Long Meadow is gonna get some more stores and be more lively as far as life, but I was hoping that they'd take and turn the old Sears store into a Civil War museum. I think that would be a great place for it. There's a lot of parking, a lot of places around there people could walk to and shop and eat. I think that would be a great idea." - Hagerstown
