Sovereign Bank

Micheal C. Line has been promoted to assistant vice president of Sovereign Bank.

Line manages Sovereign's Longmeadow Community Banking Office.

Line, of Hagers-town, has 11 years of banking experience. He is a graduate of the Central Atlantic Advanced School of Banking and Leadership.

Washington County Sheriff's Office

Lt. Dennis Minnick of the Washington County Sheriff's Office Detention Division was presented with the Hagerstown Sunrise Rotary Club's Vocational Service Award on June 8.

The award was given for public service beyond the call of duty.

Minnick is involved in the restoration of southern communities ravaged by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent storms. He has volunteered his free time in five states over the past two years, rebuilding homes in affected areas.


He is a 20-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Office Detention Division, assigned as the 12-8 shift commander.

·Also, Deputy William Mills of the Washington County Sheriff's Office Detention Division, was awarded the Public Safety Award by the county Sheriff's Office at Hagers-town Community College's Annual Public Safety Day Awards Ceremony on May 11.

The award was the result of Mills' successful intervention in a medical emergency involving a Detention Center visitor.

Mills also received the Employee of the Year award, sponsored by the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association at its annual conference in Ocean City, Md., on June 3.

Mills is a three-year veteran assigned to the 4-12 shift as a correctional deputy.

Erie Insurance Group

Erie Insurance Group recently announced the appointment of Rodney Powers as an agent representing the company in Frederick County, Md.

Powers has five years of experience in the insurance field.


The Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagers-town recognized Richard A. Schutte, correctional officer II, as Employee of the Month.

Schutte, the shop security officer, has done an exceptional job for more than 10 years, according to a prepared release.

He often goes above and beyond in his duties, investigating matters fully and uses his extensive knowledge of the shops to ensure certain security issues are met with the highest standards, the release says.

Sagittarius Salon

Brandon DaSilva, creative designer of Sagittarius Salon, attended The Institute of Courage in Malibu Calif.

He attended the advanced class, "Structure in Motion Experience," taught by hair designer Michael O'Rourke and focusing on O'Rourke's signature cutting system.

Tastefully Simple

Two area residents have become independent consultants with Tastefully Simple Inc., a national direct-sales company.

As consultants, Rachel Weigand of Boonsboro and Tia Jordan of Hagerstown offer the company's gourmet foods and beverages to people attending home taste-testing parties.

Edward Jones

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Edward Jones financial adviser Peter Walters, of Waynesboro, recently received the Jack Phelan Award for his sales and service efforts over the past year.

Of the firm's more than 10,000 financial advisors, 2,845 received the award.

·Rich Keller was named to take over the Edward Jones office at 35 E. Main St., in Waynesboro.

He will work with Peter Walters in the Waynesboro area.

Keller, a financial adviser, was one of 70 Edward Jones representatives selected to attend the the firm's advanced training classes in St. Louis.

In the class, financial advisers focus on assessing the needs of investors, study more advanced investments and learn how the investments can be used to meet specific investment needs. They also receive individualized training to sharpen their investment skills and develop a business plan to follow when they return to their offices.

·Financial adviser Joan F. Bowers was invited to go to the firm's headquarters in St. Louis to help train financial advisers with less experience.

Bowers Marine Sales

Bowers Marine Sales in Hagerstown has in place a new team being led by Manager Jocelyne Melton-Berca.

New service technicians are Nick Zdziera and James Loar; new rigger is Daniel Lightfoot; new parts specialist is John Thomas; and new title clerk is Shauna Price.

FREDERICK, Md. - Ronnie Reaver has completed his first year of apprenticeship at STH Inc.

A graduate of Walkersville High School and CTC, Reaver acquired the necessary skills to perform mechanical pump repairs and electronic control analysis and repair during his training. The company specializes in the sale and service of engineered plumbing products to the commercial, municipal, sprinkler and industrial markets.
