Police identify woman found in Potomac

KNOXVILLE, Md. - A woman's body was found early Friday in the Potomac River along the C&O Canal in the Knoxville Road area, said Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

The woman was identified as Jessica Rene Wilson, 18, of Knoxville, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

Deputies were called about 5:30 a.m. to the 100 block of Knoxville Road for a report of a missing person, police said.

After a search that included aid from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Maryland State Police Aviation, Wilson's body was spotted in the river about 6:10 a.m., police said.

Wilson's body was sent to the chief medical examiner's office in Baltimore, police said. The cause of death had not yet been determined.

Police still are investigating the incident.
