Commissioners ban ATVs from Greenwoods subdivision

July 14, 2007|By TRISH RUDDER

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - All-terrain vehicles no longer are allowed in the Greenwoods subdivision, according to a petition request approved Friday by the Morgan County Commission.

Commission President Glen Stotler said the subdivision's property owners' association met the criteria to allow ATVs to be banned.

"Greenwoods will become part of the ban to be subject to the county ordinance effective immediately," Stotler said.

Bruce Williams, treasurer of the Greenwoods Property Owners Association, said 21 of the 33 lot owners voted in favor of the ban.

The subdivision has about two miles of roads, Williams said. It is off W.Va. 13 and Pine Grove Road in the Unger area.

A public notice will be placed in the local newspaper, and law enforcement officials will be notified, Stotler said.

In 2004, Morgan County adopted an ordinance banning ATVs in subdivisions, and about 12 subdivisions submitted petitions to the county and have met the criteria, Stotler said.
