Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company carnival kicks off Monday

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The officials of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Co. carnival announce this year's musical entertainment lineup for the week of Monday, July 16, through Saturday, July 21. This year's entertainment features recording artists from the region. All performances are free.

On Friday, the carnival stage will once again offer area amateur crooners a chance to compete at the firemen's karaoke tent competition. It's open to the first 30 registered that evening. The carnival is on U.S. 522 north of Berkeley Springs on the U.S. Silica grounds and operates in the evening hours, featuring rides and games from Snyder's Amusements and food. There will be one-price admission to rides each night. Bring lawn chairs for performances.

Entertainment includes:

· Monday, July 16 - The Flashbacks, featuring Dr. Matt Hahn on vocals and vintage rock 'n' roll, country and hillbilly music

· Tuesday, July 17 - Nashville recording artist Bob Plunkert and Real Country

· Wednesday, July 18 - Hillbillygirl recording artists Tori Anderson & Possum Holler will perform songs from "Substantially Blue"

· Thursday, July 19 - Sam & the All-nighters, an all-original release from Sam Cubbage

· Friday, July 20 - Karaoke contest with prizes; registration at 6:15 p.m. The first 30 registered perform. Call Bill Clark at 304-258-3449. NBT recording artists the Sanders Sisters will warm up for the contest at 7 p.m.

· Saturday, July 21 - The Drifting Whistle Pigs, traditional and outlaw country

Show times are 7 and 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7 p.m. warm-up show, followed by the contest on Friday; and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
