Judge forwards abuse, assault case against man

A Hagerstown man charged with second-degree assault and second-degree child abuse had his case forwarded to Washington County Circuit Court after a District Court judge found probable cause Tuesday for the charges, court records show.

Jason Lynsey Dewease was charged June 16 after Washington County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported assault.

Dewease's wife said he was drunk and became upset at her children, Washington County District Court records show. He threw something at her and threatened to kill their puppy, records show.

When Dewease tried to grab the dog, his wife got in his way and he grabbed her by the arm and threw her to the ground, records show.

The woman told deputies that on June 15, Dewease smacked her 9-year-old and 4-year-old daughters on their buttocks, records show. One of the girls told deputies that she was very scared when Dewease smacked her, records show.
