You Said It

"Isn't it funny that a CIA report is shedding bad light on the Democratic presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Carter for poisoning, plotting to kill Castro, all different types of things, wiretapping? It came out earlier this week. Haven't heard too much at all about it, I guess because they were liberal Democrats. If it was a Republican they were talking about, it probably would have got more mileage than a Volvo. Unfortunately, that's the world we're living in. Liberals are saying their messages and getting out. The problem is all the messages shedding bad light on Republicans seem to get out, whereas radio will get out the bad light for Democrats and the liberal media."

"Morning Herald, June 29, Opinion, Bob Maginnis - everyone please read that 'Maryland's doomsday budget.' Good overview by Bob. Also, check about the fourth paragraph down - says local government to pay half the teachers' retirement costs. Who's gonna pay the other half, and what does a teacher have to pay into the retirement plan, and what benefits do they get out of that? Good job, Bob. Thanks."

"I was just calling to compliment whoever does layout for The Herald-Mail. Yesterday afternoon's paper, in the comic section, I see the 'Closer to Home' comic strip, with the gentleman being held by the bear and his wife hollering, 'Eric, look for his pressure point.' Then you turn the page, and here's the article about the 26-year-old woman from Frederick who was attacked by a bear in Romania. Somebody's really doing good with the design and layout in the paper."

"To the Hagerstown person that was disappointed in the Hagerstown Fire Department not lowering their flags to honor their nine brothers killed in Charleston: It wasn't because they didn't want to, but they must follow flag rules that state, 'Only the president or the governor of your state can authorize the flag to be flown at half-staff at governmental institutions.' Since neither President Bush or Gov. O'Malley ordered the flags to half-staff, the department would've been disregarding the rules, and in the eyes of many veterans, disrespecting our flag. I can assure the caller that all members of the department's hearts were at half-staff for the fallen brothers, and prayers were given and condolences sent. Pain, compassion and love don't always have to be publicly displayed."

"If the 12-mile stretch of I-81 in Washington County is widened from four lanes to six lanes, what benefits will the citizens of the county receive?"

"Kids growing up are exposed to sex, violence and drugs in all forms of entertainment. It is evident that this has a profound influence on their lives and many will eventually react. It is appalling what has happened in this country. Our security threat is from people in this country, not the Middle East. Entertainment can be cleaned up by politicians if demanded by voters. Do you really believe you personally are at a high risk of being attacked by a terrorist? Do you feel safer than you did before Iraq was invaded? Terrorism is being used to divert our attention from the real threat."

"Maryland prison employees have a new policy effective July 1. All employees must clear the metal detector or they will be disciplined and sent home (on) leave without pay. Items that may not clear are boots, shoes, some clothing, including underwire bras. However, you can take items off to see if you can clear. That ought to be quite a show. And by the way, inmates are still allowed contact visits. Looks like the inmates' rights are more important than employees. Thanks, Secretary Maynard."

"Just the interest off the $60 million being spent to lengthen the airport runway could have been used to subsidize passenger service forever. Probably could have lowered fares and flew to an airport that passengers would want to fly to."

"Why do TV stations show store clerks resisting robbers and then tell you never to do it - that you are to hand over the money and not resist? I think they should show film of clerks doing the proper thing, handing over the money and not resisting. Guess no one wants to see that."

"I have a suggestion for Gov. O'Malley, as far as the correctional positions he wants to get rid of at these institutions. They have uniformed officers doing clerical jobs, instead of being out in the jail doing correctional officer jobs. Move these men and women out into regular correctional officers' positions. They can hire secretaries to do the clerical jobs. It works - they've done it before. There are so many solutions, if they'd only listen to the people that work in the trenches."

"The Snow White Grill was open in 1940. I don't know when it opened, but I got my lunch there when I delivered newspapers."
