Clear Spring man guilty of club incident

HAGERSTOWN - A Clear Spring man was convicted Monday of reckless endangerment in a September incident at Cancun Cantina on Dual Highway.

Lance Michael Turner, 23, was being held Monday night at Washington County Detention Center. Circuit Judge Frederick C. Wright III ordered Turner to be held without bond.

A conviction on a charge of reckless endangerment carries a possible sentence of five years in prison or a $5,000 fine.

Turner was charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and using a deadly weapon to cause injury, after one of two men injured in a Sept. 1, 2006, fight outside the nightclub told police Turner hit them with a golf club, according to a charging document.

A jury found Turner not guilty of the assault and deadly weapon charges.

When police arrived at the scene at 1:13 a.m., they found a man bleeding heavily from his head, the document states. A second man, who had a large bruise on the back of his leg, told police three men approached him and his friend and began hitting them with a golf club, according to the document.

At Washington County Hospital, the victim with head injuries told police that a man held him down while another man hit him with the club for no reason, the document states.

Police found the head of a golf club lying against a curb in the parking lot and a set of golf clubs in Turner's vehicle, according to the document.

Wright ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be completed before Turner's sentencing. No sentencing date was set.
