You Said It

"Mr. Maginnis was asking for people to join his editorial board. If the Democrats get their way and pass a fairness doctrine, he won't need an editorial board. The government will tell him the opinions he can print."

- Hedgesville, W.Va.

"I hope if the County Commissioners' meetings are televised that they do better than the City Council meetings, meaning they should talk loud enough in their microphones that we can hear what is being said. The last time I listened to the City Council meeting was May 24, and the only thing I could see them do was swivel around in their chairs and talk in a sleepy, low voice - all but one who had a cold and coughed into her microphone."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling in to complain. I just finished reading today's Morning Herald, and page A8, the whole page is worthless - a picture of a doctor's coat with a headless man on it. Can't you people find anything else to put in the paper? I think this is a waste of time and energy and money. Every time I renew my paper for the year, is this why it goes up, because you put in this trashy stuff? Also, I read a column, it took it me 51 seconds to read it, and you say 30 seconds. I think you ought to start editing the columns and sticking to what you say on the phone when people call in."

"So our airport business only has a small portion of commercial flights. I don't know what they do with the rest of the stuff. Tell me why again we need an extended runway. To do what? I'm confused. Why do we need a runway extension again?"

- Hagerstown

"Please stop criticizing teachers. Check with someone to see what a bachelor's and master's degree cost, to go to college. You're reading this, so thank a schoolteacher. Thank you."

- Hagerstown

"It's the end of June, and believe it or not, there hasn't been too many problems in my neighborhood as far as loud stereos and speeding cars. Fortunately, the neighborhood sticks together, and we turn these license plates in and turn the drivers in. Maybe that helped. But today I had to call one in to the city police, give the tag and the description of the vehicle, of course. But what gets me, this vehicle is customized, and the tires stick out so far from under the vehicle, that's illegal - at least the last time I checked. Somebody should spot this thing coming a mile away. It looks ridiculous, and it's unsafe."

- Hagerstown

"America's latest dictatorship is called NASCAR."

- Boonsboro

"I challenge anyone to pay attention to how rapidly the temperature has increased in the last week, and yet still say that global warming is not real."

- Clear Spring

"To the person who said that God has granted the ability to find embryonic stem cells, and therefore we should use them, I would add that God also granted us the ability to jump off a cliff, so should we do that?"

- Williamsport

"I don't care how much you pay the schoolteachers, the kids are still gonna be the same. You're gonna have good kids and bad kids. Let the parents at home do the disciplining of them. Get rid of disruptive kids in school, and then let the courts take care of the other kids. If the kids don't want to learn, I don't care what you pay the teachers. It is not gonna make them learn. They have to want to get an education."

- Williamsport

"(Peter) Angelos has only been the worst owner in baseball, for what, the last 10 years or more - pretty much ever since he bought the Orioles. I think year in and year out since he's taken over the team - and I'm maybe a Orioles fan maybe 15 years now - but I think he's shown us that. Who's gonna sell something that's making them lots of money? No one, regardless of if they're winning championships or not. The Orioles fans should stop attending games. That's the only way you're gonna get him to sell. But if you walk around Baltimore and all the people that are not from Baltimore, the big business owners like that, they're gonna keep buying their tickets to keep their customers happy. So we'll just keep complaining, and the people that really care about the team will lose."

- Hagerstown

"Delaware has no sales tax."

"People are walking their dogs and letting their dogs do their business all over everybody's property up here in the West End, and I know on Armstrong Avenue, also. But nothing is done about it, and something needs to be done. This morning I went out to work in my garden, and there was a Rottweiler loose in my backyard. I was afraid to go outside, so I could not go outside all day. I called the SPCA. Keep your dogs locked up."

"I'm not a schoolteacher, but I don't understand why you people, a lot of you keep picking on the schoolteachers and the wages they make. I would much rather pay a schoolteacher $35,000 or $40,000 a year, with their college degrees and all their training and everything, than I would pay a factory worker $50,000 a year with absolutely no overtime with excellent benefits. I don't see why you guys are always harping at the teachers. You're picking on the wrong people. Thank you."

- Sharpsburg
