MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 6-year-old boy was flown to Washington (D.C.) Children's Hospital Saturday after he was attacked by a Rottweiler north of Martinsburg near Berkeley Station Road, Berkeley County Sheriff W. Randy Smith said.

The child's condition was not immediately available, but Smith said he was told the boy was bitten in the hip and leg area.

Berkeley County Animal Control and Sheriff's Department officers were dispatched to Rudolph Court off U.S. 11 just before 3 p.m., an animal control official said.

Smith said the dog owner relinquished the Rottweiler to animal control authorities.

No additional information about the attack was available from Berkeley County Animal Control officials.
