June 28, 2007

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Defending West Virginia Open champion David Bradshaw, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., shot a 3-over-par 75 in the opening round Wednesday.

Bradshaw opened with a 40 on the front nine and when he finished, he was five shots behind Ryan Whalen's 70 at the Lakeview Resort.

Two rain delays made it a seven-hour day on the 6,760-yard course.

Bradshaw tees off today at 1:30 p.m. in a group that includes Pat Carter, 12-time West Virginia amateur champion.

Other scores from area players included: David Boggs, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., 74; John Kingora, of Waynesboro, Pa., 76; Chuck Ingram, of Shepherdstown, 81; Michael Boggs, of Hedgesville, W.Va., 82; and Rich Pell, of Charles Town, W.Va., 85.
