CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A mother and daughter were charged in a case of retail theft that escalated to a robbery Sunday night that also placed a grandchild in danger, according to Chambersburg police.

Justina W. Woodson, 26, of 1645 Scotland Ave., and her mother, Patricia Y. Glasco, 43, of the same address, both were charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft, police said. Woodson was also charged with robbery, aggravated and simple assault, while Glasco was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Woodson, Glasco and a 2-year-old were leaving Kmart on Wayne Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. when a store security officer confronted them outside the entrance for taking merchandise without paying, police said. The officer told them to come inside, but police said Woodson sprayed Mace in the officer's face.

While Woodson and the officer were fighting, Glasco and the child got into a vehicle and she drove away, police said. Woodson got away from the officer and ran to Stouffer Avenue, where Glasco picked her up, police alleged.

Two witnesses followed the vehicle and called 911, giving dispatchers the registration number and directions until police were able to take Glasco into custody, police said. The witnesses told police that the vehicle ran stop signs and red lights and the child was not in a safety seat.

Before police stopped Glasco, Woodson had gotten out of the vehicle a few blocks from Kmart, police said. She was taken into custody at her home, police said.

Neither woman was listed as having been an inmate at Franklin County Jail, a jail official said Monday.
