Ray Johns, a retired economics professor who taught at Hagerstown Community College for 25 years, has been named to serve a three-year term on the board of trustees at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

In addition to his work at HCC, Johns spent time abroad as a Fulbright professor of economics in the Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Moldova. He served as an associate professor of economics at Ashland University from 1972 to 1975.

He holds degrees from Hagerstown Junior College, now Hagerstown Community College, and the University of Maryland, and served as a visiting fellow in the economics department at Yale University.

TUCSON, Ariz. - The board of directors of Women has named Elizabeth M. Uible of Charles Town, W.Va., the company's chief operating officer.

Women is an Internet-based training company that aims to help women build wealth for themselves and their communities, with a focus on eradicating poverty worldwide through women.

Uible, a graduate of Georgetown University, has a background in global economic development for women dating to 1997.

Hose, of Sharpsburg, has 33 years of banking experience. He graduated from the Maryland Banking School at the University of Maryland.

Elizabethtown College

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Elizabethtown College recently elected six members, including a Hagers-town man, to its board of trustees.

Michael Mason, of Hag-erstown, is a 1972 graduate of Elizabethtown College.

He is the deputy quality assurance manager for Bechtel National Inc., the fourth largest global engineering, construction and project management company in the world.

He was previously the Bechtel-SAIC quality assurance manager for the Yucca Mountain project in Nevada. Yucca Mountain is the United States' identified central repository for disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste.

Mason serves in leadership roles on national committees: the American National Standard Institute - American Society Mechanical Engineers, Nuclear Quality Assurance, a committee responsible for establishing the standards for the management of commercial nuclear waste; and a Department of Energy-sponsored committee that works with the DOE to define the quality assurance standards to be invoked on DOE projects and sites.

Laurie Gauthier has joined Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's Home Team as the newest sales associate in the Hagerstown Office. Gauthier is licensed in Maryland.

Stylist Lucas Shaffer recently was the lead educator at Sagittarius Salon in Hagerstown.

Shaffer, of the Redken Exchange, focused on advanced hair cutting and business and marketing tools for the stylists.

Also, Master Stylists Loree Wesley and owner Marsha Knicley attended the Advanced Vidal Sassoon creative color and haircut design two-day workshop in New York City.

The class, offered to stylists who have trained with top professionals around the country, focused on the classic Sassoon cuts and innovative color by Wella professionals.
