June 24, 2007

A Hedgesville, W.Va., man was caught in Washington County on Friday night after police in Berkeley County chased a vehicle that allegedly had stolen license plates.

Maryland State Police said Kurtis Alan Mills, 26, was charged with theft, driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding and other misdemeanor traffic counts.

State police said several Berkeley County Sheriff's Department cars chased Mills' vehicle on Interstate 81 into Maryland.

Police said they tried to use "stop sticks" in the road two miles into Maryland, but the vehicle evaded the sticks and turned onto northbound U.S. 11.

After five miles, Mills' vehicle collided with a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department car near the Macy's parking lot at Valley Mall.
