Man arraigned in attempted pizzeria robbery

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Norfolk, Va., man accused of attempting to rob of pizza shop on Sunday only to be dragged out of the business after receiving several knife wounds in a scuffle with employees there was arraigned Thursday night, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Dewayne Lamont McGregor, 24, was charged with one count of robbery, two counts of wanton endangerment, one count of assault during the commission of a felony and one count of felon in possession a firearm, according to court records. Two counts of wanton endangerment and three counts of robbery that initially were filed against McGregor were dismissed, according to court records.

Magistrate Joan V. Bragg set a $250,000 bond for McGregor, who was treated at City Hospital for severe lacerations he received June 17 in a scuffle with employees of Paesano's Pizza at 9460 Williamsport Pike in northern Berkeley County.

McGregor was armed with a loaded revolver when he attempted to rob the business, and it later was discovered that one bullet was lodged in the barrel of gun, which was wrestled away from the accused.
