Woman killed in I-81 crash still not identified

June 23, 2007

CARLISLE, Pa. - Cumberland County Coroner Mike Norris said Friday a positive identification still had not been made for one of two women killed when a van crashed Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 81.

Carol Fiscaletti-Mackaravitz, 26, of Chambersburg, has been identified by the Coroner's Office and Pennsylvania State Police as one of the victims in the 3 p.m. accident near Exit 37 in Newville, Pa. She and the unidentified woman were thrown from a van as it rolled over after a collision with another vehicle.

Six other people in the van, including the driver, Melvin Garcia-Rivera, of Chambersburg, escaped serious injury, police said.

Garcia-Rivera was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, recklessly endangering another person and driving without a license, police said.

Police said he was driving the van north when he tried to merge into the left lane and struck another vehicle. The van then swerved to the right and rolled over several times, police said.
