Martinsburg man faces drug charge



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - After stopping a car in Martinsburg on Thursday, police charged the driver with having guns and illegal drugs.

Martinsburg Police said in a news release that Patrolman J.E. Darby stopped a Cadillac near the intersection of Randolph and Baltimore streets.

After Darby smelled marijuana as he approached the car, police found and seized three guns from the trunk, the release says.

One was a Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun, one was a Rossie .22-caliber Magnum revolver and one was a Cobra .380-caliber automatic handgun.

The Cobra handgun was reported stolen, police said.

Police said they also found marijuana, both in the passenger compartment and just outside the car.

The driver - Aaron Lee Hairston, 20, of Martinsburg - was charged with transferring stolen property, possession of marijuana and three counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

He also was given a ticket on a charge of crossing the center line.

A 16-year-old passenger, whose name was not released, was charged with possession of marijuana, police said.




Hagerstown man faces charges in Pa.



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Hagerstown man who wouldn't stop for a Washington County sheriff's deputy on Wednesday was charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said.

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said in a news release that Justin D. Martin, 18, of Hagerstown, was charged with suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated by a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Police said a sheriff's deputy tried to stop Martin's 2005 Dodge Neon on Cearfoss Pike in Washington County at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, but he didn't stop and continued into Pennsylvania.

After a short distance, with Pennsylvania State Police involved, he pulled over and was given citations, police said.

Police said Martin had a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana.




Hagerstown Police respond to calls



The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents, according to a news release:

Tuesday:

· At 3:22 p.m., an assault was reported in the area of Locust Street and Randolph Avenue.

· At 6:17 p.m., a sexual assault was reported in the 200 block of South Locust Street.

Wednesday:

· At 9:16 a.m., a man was arrested for possession of marijuana in the 1000 block of Wayne Avenue.

· At 9:39 a.m., a woman was arrested for assault in the 800 block of Frederick Street.




Frederick man faces assault charge



FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick man was charged with assault Tuesday after officers responded to Briar Court for a report of a disorderly person armed with a knife, the Frederick Police Department said.

The man had argued with his roommates and brandished a machete at them, police alleged in a news release. He also threatened to harm his roommates, police said.

Willard Vincent Sigler, 48, of 839 Briar Court in Frederick, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
