Quad-State conference set for August

June 22, 2007

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The 20th Quad-State Legislative Conference to be held Aug. 23 in Martinsburg will focus on school safety, organizers announced.

"Often, we have more things in common with the counties up and down I-81 than we do with our own states," Del. John Overington, this year's coordinator, said in a press release. "The conferences foster greater communication among the states and help us develop relationships between legislators and government entities. We discuss ways to find solutions to better serve our constituents."

Additional agenda items include economic development, tourism and regional issues crossing state lines.

Legislators from along the Interstate 81 corridor from Chambersburg, Hagerstown, Martinsburg, Winchester and nearby areas are invited.

"The 2007 Quad-State will center around an issue of vital interest to all members of the Quad-State Conference in light of the recent violence at Virginia Tech," said last year's coordinator, Pennsylvania state Rep. Rob Kauffman. "This forum will provide an open and spirited conversation about how communities and government can work together to provide protection for all our students."
