Lions Club holds Charter Night

The Beaver Creek Lions Club held its 18th Charter Night on May 2 at Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse in Hagerstown.

Club President Jackie McDonnell presided over the meeting. The song was led by Sonja Pereschuk, the pledge by Ruth Lewis and the invocation by Barbara Ullrich.

McDonnell introduced guests - Arthur Pereschuk and Gail Mongan of the Funkstown Lions Club; Mary and Joe Ecker of the Williamsport Lions Club; Tom Jefts Jr. of the Potomac Valley Lions Club, and Carmel Llewellyn, a friend of the club.

After the buffet dinner, McDonnell introduced Officer Jason Dietz of the Hagerstown Police Department. Dietz was recognized by the club for his work with the agency that provides services to the C-SAFE areas. Deitz's wife and son accompanied him to the dinner.

Ullrich introduced Vice District Gov. Barbara McKenney of the Kitzmiller Lions Club, who rededicated the chapter and presented it to McDonnell.

Sue McGowan conducted a candlelight ceremony in memory of the club's deceased members, including Elva Dodson, Gertrude Shrader, Joan Hurt, Patsy Churchey, Margaret Trussell and Margaret Zeller.

Charter members Loretta McDonnell, Ruth Lewis, Julia Steiner, Jackie McDonnell, Sonja Pereschuk and Irene Clopper were recognized.

The meeting closed with the benediction by Betty Morgan.
