The following Washington County residents graduated from Villa Julie College, Baltimore, on Friday, May 18:

· Trent Alan Semler, Boonsboro, Bachelor of Science in visual communication design.

· Brittany D. Shoaf of Hagerstown, Bachelor of Science in visual communication design.




Two Washington County students, Jena Mannick of South Hagerstown High School and Daniel Myers of Williamsport High School, are among the 610 high school seniors nationwide who received $1,000 scholarships as part of the seventh annual Burger King Scholars Program.

Students are selected based on their grade-point average, work experience, financial need, co-curricular activities and community service.

Scholarship funds come directly from company-owned and franchise Burger King restaurants throughout the country that host a variety of fundraising activities in order to generate monies for scholarships each year.

Brianne Barton of Funkstown was named to the spring 2007 semester dean's list at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, W.Va.

Barton, a senior, is majoring in arts administration/master of business administration.




Heather K. Snow of Smithsburg has received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Montreat (N.C.) College. Snow graduated magna cum laude, which indicates a grade-point average of 3.70 to 3.84.




Andrew Bowen of Williamsport was named to the dean's list at Harding University, Searcy, Ark., for the spring 2007 semester.

Bowen is a senior majoring in middle-level math and science education.




David L. Waldman, son of Mary and Paul Waldman of Hagerstown, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., on May 20.

A world politics major at Hamilton, Waldman graduated magna cum laude and was elected to the Pi Sigma Alpha honor society.

Waldman has also been named to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester.




Katherine Brady, a 2005 graduate of Smithsburg High School, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Brady was also designated as a Senior St. Mary's Scholar. This distinction is attained by individuals with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better who have earned at least 32 semester hours at St. Mary's College.




The following area students received degrees from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., at commencement ceremonies May 20:

Erik M. Anderson of Frederick, Md., son of Donald and Jean Anderson, a 2003 graduate of Seton Home Study School, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and departmental honors in English.

Gillian L. Harrison of Mount Airy, Md., daughter of Kenneth and Jennifer Harrison, and a 2003 graduate of Linganore High School, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in cell biology/biochemistry.

Stuart V. Hollenshead Jr. of Mercersburg, Pa., son of Stuart and Shari Hollenshead, and a 2003 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in cell biology/biochemistry.

Julie A. Lesko of Waynesboro, Pa., daughter of Bruce and Beth Lesko, and a 2003 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in economics.

Brooke L. Palmer of State College, Pa., daughter of Michael and Alice Palmer, and a 2000 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, graduated with a Master of Science in education. Palmer is a 2004 graduate of Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in European history. As an undergradate, she was a dean's list student and member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Rebecca F. Scheffter of Mount Airy, daughter of Kenneth and Barbara Scheffter, and a 2003 graduate of Linganore High, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English - creative writing.

Alexandra M. Skovira of Walkersville, Md., daughter of Brian and Elaina Skovira, and a 2003 graduate of Walkersville High School, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Russian.

Andrew B. Yeatts of Mercersburg, son of William and Gay Yeatts, and a 2003 graduate of James Buchanan High School, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering.




Emily B. Myers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Myers of Hagerstown, was named to the dean's list at Furman University, Greenville, S.C., for the spring 2007 semester.




Kristopher A. Fischer received his Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School, Washington, D.C., on May 20.

The ceremony was attended by his longtime girlfriend Alexis Lopez, his brother Greg Fischer and his wife, Jackie, of Keller, Texas, and his mother, Barbara Fischer of Hagerstown.

Fischer is a 1999 graduate of Williamsport High School and a 2003 graduate of Shepherd College.
