Warrant issued for Hagerstown man in W.Va. shooting

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A warrant has been issued for a Hagerstown man suspected in the shooting of a Martinsburg man Friday morning outside The Waffle House at 1807 Edwin Miller Blvd., according to a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department press release.

Ben McMeans, 28, address unavailable, was shot twice in the upper body in the 4 a.m. incident, according to the release. He was taken in a private vehicle to City Hospital in Martinsburg, according to the release.

McMeans' injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the release, but a City Hospital spokeswoman would not release any information on his condition.

Police said the investigation led them to charge Markus Alanzo Watts, 23, address unavailable, of Hagerstown, with malicious wounding, according to the release. Watts had not been taken into custody as of Friday at 10 p.m.

What led up to the shooting still was being investigated Friday night, according to the release.

Lt. Gary Harmison of the Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case, but could not be reached for comment Friday night.
