Pa. man killed, driver injured in Md. 550 crash

FREDERICK, Md. - A Waynesboro, Pa., man was pronounced dead Thursday morning following a single-vehicle accident on Md. 550 north of Kelbaugh Road, according to a Maryland State Police press release.

Tracy Allen Medvid, 35, was a passenger in a 2001 Dodge Dakota truck that was northbound on Md. 550 at 2:43 a.m. when the driver, James B. Seipler, also of Waynesboro, lost control of the vehicle on a curve in the roadway, according to the release.

The vehicle crossed the center line and left the road, striking a tree on the passenger side, according to the release.

Medvid was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

Seipler was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to the release.

Seipler was in critical condition Thursday night, according to a hospital nursing supervisor.

Md. 550 was closed for about three hours during the investigation, according to the release.
