Williamsport Town Council approves new budget

June 13, 2007|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

WILLIAMSPORT - The town's property tax rate will stay the same as it's been for many years as part of a $4 million fiscal year 2008 budget passed by the Williamsport Town Council on Monday.

Overall spending would drop by 2 percent.

Water rates will go up 2.5 percent and sewer rates will go up 5 percent.

Even though the property tax rate will remain at 40.5 cents per $100 of assessed value, tax bills will increase because of rising assessments. The result will be $29,984, or 8.5 percent, more tax revenue, according to a summary of the tax rate.

No one from the public commented on Monday during two public hearings.

The council unanimously approved the tax rate and the budget.

Fiscal year 2008 starts July 1.
