July 4 activities planned in Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT - A number of activities have been planned for the Independence Day holiday in Williamsport.

A street dance will be July 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. across from Town Hall. The dance will feature the classic rock music of Lumpy Jones.

Activities on July 4 include:

· A pancake breakfast will be from 6 to 10 a.m. at the Byron Memorial Park community building. It is sponsored by the Williamsport Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Co.

· An ice cream trailer, also sponsored by the fire and ambulance company, will be open all day.

· Music in the park will include Crossroads (Top 40 variety) from 11 a.m. to noon; South Mountain String Band (bluegrass) from 1 to 2 p.m.; Stoney Creek (bluegrass) at 3 p.m.; Spectrum (Top 40) at 5 p.m.; and the Williamsport Community Band and a local chorus at 7 p.m.


· A 5K Run For Freedom will be held through the streets of Williamsport. Registration at Byron Memorial Park near Springfield Barn, Pavilion 3, begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Hagerstown Community College track and tennis scholarship programs.

· Food and beverage sales to benefit Rehoboth Methodist Church's Willing Workers Group will be from 10 a.m. to dusk

· Demonstrations by the 4 Star Athletic Complex Gymnastics Club will begin at 11 a.m. Food and beverage sales to benefit the club continue throughout the day.

· Frozen drinks and popcorn sales, with proceeds to benefit the Williamsport Rotary, will be from 11 a.m. to dusk.

· The Williamsport Food Bank will have a booth/display. Food bank personnel are asking that people bring a canned food item or make a financial donation.

· Fireworks in the park will begin after dusk.
