Council approves budget

June 12, 2007|by DAN DEARTH

CLEAR SPRING - The Clear Spring Town Council voted unanimously on Monday to approve a $727,426 budget for fiscal year 2007-08.

The budget is $270,321 more than last year's, according to budget comparisons.

Town Clerk Juanita Grimm said the increase in appropriations could be attributed to several upcoming infrastructure projects.

Work also has to be done on a water line on U.S. 40, just west of town, she said.

Grimm said the start date and cost of those projects are unknown at this point, but the town hopes to finish them within the next fiscal year.

In addition, the planned purchase of a $65,000 generator for the wastewater treatment plant, coupled with future upgrades there, account for other budget increases, she said.

The town won't have to raise water or sewer rates to pay for the projects, Grimm said. The money will come from a surplus that has been built up over the years.
