PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg senior Lexi Rodgers and Musselman senior Megan Holmes were both First Team selections for the second straight year on the West Virginia Class AAA All-State team, released Saturday by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

Rodgers, The Herald-Mail's 2007 Player of the Year, was selected as a pitcher. She went 19-8 this season with a 0.84 ERA and 248 strikeouts in 175 2/3 innings. She also batted .602 with four homers and 39 RBIs.

Holmes, a pitcher/outfielder, was selected as a utility player. She batted .468 with two homers and 27 RBI, and had an 11-6 pitching record with a 0.78 ERA and 146 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings.

All-State Second Team selections included Hedgesville sophomore Jessica Shirley (pitcher), Jefferson senior Kaitlyn Thorsell (outfield) and Jefferson junior Whitney Mathias (utility).


Hedgesville's Samantha Nazelrod and Musselman's Lacey Williams earned Special Honorable Mention status, while Hedgesville's Chelsea Oals was an Honorable Mention.


Kane, Dattilio to play at Camden Yards

BALTIMORE - Boonsboro senior catcher Kyle Kane and North Hagerstown senior outfielder Mark Dattilio were selected by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches to participate in today's 25th annual Brooks Robinson High School All-Star Game, which features top players from the state.

The game will be played at Baltimore's Camden Yards, following the completion of the Orioles' 1:35 p.m. game against the Colorado Rockies. There is no admission charge for the all-star game.

Kane batted .574 with four home runs and 27 RBI for Boonsboro this season. Dattilio batted .371 with two homers and 17 RBI for the Hubs.
