Mail Call

June 07, 2007

"This is in response to the item about illegal parking in fire zones. Good luck getting anybody to respond. I have contacted the Hagerstown City Police, Washington County Sheriff's Department and the Maryland State Police, but nothing ever gets corrected. Sure hope somebody does something before someone gets killed."

"Bush may not be the best president or the worst, but at least he is standing up to terrorists. Had Clinton taken care of Osama when he had more than one chance to, 9/11 would have not have happened. Bush has never raised taxes, and there is plenty of work. I won't say all the best jobs are in Hagers-town, Md., but there is work, if one wants to work. Stats show unemployment is as low as it has been in a long time. The same info went to Bush about WMDs also went to Kerry, Kennedy and Hillary, by the same informer. Saddam didn't poison his people on Kool-Aid."

"I would like to thank the City of Hagerstown light department for their quick response for the incident that happened on Monday, June 4. It seems that some tree trimmers threw some tree limbs over on the electrical wires and knocked the power out on most of Salem Avenue and the streets surrounding it. Their quick response within - I don't even think it was an hour - everybody's electric was restored, and I just want to say thank you to them for their quick response in helping us out."

"When the Bush administration used that 'cut and run' tactic a couple years back, I kept thinking to myself 'I heard that phrase before,' Then I was watching on the History Channel about Black Hawk Down. President Clinton said about the Republican Congress at that time, that he didn't want to leave Somalia. He didn't want to cut and run. So Clinton said it; all Bush did was copy. A day after the fiasco in Somalia, the Republican Congress - repeat, the Republican Congress - wanted to leave Somalia right away. They said they want to protect this country."

"I think it's time someone admits that Iraq does have WMDs. Even though they only use a few at a time, there has been a tremendous amount of killings and destruction there. I think it's time the United Nations and other countries send troops to that troubled area. There are quite a few other nations pleading for help from terrorist takeover. If something isn't done soon, a global war like World War II will soon break out. God help us then."

"I am calling to say thanks to the crossing guard at Fountaindale on Northern Avenue. I go through there every morning, and I never saw anybody work the traffic and take care of the children like she does. I don't know her name, but someday I'm gonna stop and tell her how grateful the parents are in Fountaindale. She is a wonderful girl. I don't know her, but I'd love to learn to know her, and I will. So drivers, look out and be alert for the children. School's almost over. I hope she'll be back next year."

"Here's another shocking bit of news for the taxpayers. The famous FEMA, from the hurricane Katrina, there are right now 8,000 mint condition trailers sitting for 18 months near a town in Arkansas. FEMA wasn't even able to give them away, even to a government agency, as federal law requires. While these trailers have been sitting, New Orleans TV stations, while specially equipped medical trailers included in these 8,000, are still unused. Taxpayers need to do something."

"I, too, think that President Bush is the best president we've ever had, because he knows how to say 'We're not gonna take it.' And also, does anybody in Hagerstown know how to mind their own business?"

"Sunday, June 3, I was down in Virginia. Gas was anywhere from $2.85 to $2.90, down around Fredericksburg, Warrenton, and toward Fairfax. Now you tell me that's not a big joke, because why does Washington County have to be $3.05 and higher? There's no need for it. It's a bunch of garbage is what it is."

- Washington County

"My whole family was Democrats, clean back to the Revolutionary War, and I don't think any of them would cut and run from any battle. A bunch of them were killed in the second world war, and I don't think they'd want to be called cut and run Democrats. I think they would all change their politics; they'd pick another party. You never get away from being a coward."

"I enjoy all of Tim Rowland's articles, especially the one on May 28. And if you run for congressman or president, Tim Rowland, I will vote for you."

"I agree with the person who said we need a veterinarian 24 hours a day. I called my vet for my dog and got the answering service, and was told that they weren't open until 7, and to call back then. I knew they weren't open. What good is the answering service? I thought they were there for emergencies. How would you feel if you were told this? Remember, a dog has feelings, too. My dog was in distress and needed help badly."
