Smithsburg's EMS calls are listed

SMITHSBURG - For the month of May, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) responded to 85 calls for service, bringing the 2007 total to 486 calls, according to Capt. Jim Ulrich.

A breakdown for the month includes 18 calls within Smithsburg town limits and 15 calls to the company's area served by the Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Department.

SEMS personnel handled nine calls in the company's portion of the Mount Aetna Volunteer Fire Department's response area.

Mutual aid calls to other counties included 14 to Frederick County and three to Franklin County.

Smithsburg EMS also responded to two calls in Hagerstown's Community Rescue Service's area and five calls to the Cascade and Pen Mar areas.

Another two calls were in the Boonsboro area and one call was to Hancock.

Personnel from SEMS transported 52 patients to local hospitals during the month. One patient was treated by SEMS personnel and flown by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to Baltimore.
