Gold Scouts

Jennifer Bowlus, Carly Chambers and Tara Blacklin, shown above from left, are three of the four members of Smithsburg Troop 647 of the Shawnee Girl Scout Council who recently earned scouting's highest honor, the Girl Scout Gold Award. Not pictured is Alexandra Koch. The four girls worked together to complete their Girl Scout Gold Award with their project, Operation Santa, designed to help three nonprofit agencies in their community. The girls, who called themselves "The Pink Ladies," organized a collection of pillows, lap quilts and hats for distribution to San Mar Children's Home, Cedar Ridge Children's Home and Homewood Retirement Center.

Tara is the daughter of Gwen and John Blacklin and is a junior at Smithsburg High School.

Jennifer is the daughter of Brenda and Dwayne Bowlus and is a junior at North Hagerstown High School, where she plays volleyball and softball.

Carly, the daughter of Lisa and Lloyd White, is a junior at South Hagerstown High School.

Alexandra is the daughter of Julie and Robert Koch and a senior at South Hagerstown High School.

The Gold Award recognizes the leadership, effort, and impact that girls 14-18 have on their communities.
