Budgets approved

BOONSBORO - The Boonsboro Town Council voted Monday night to approve its fiscal year 2008 general fund, water and sewer budgets.

No residents spoke during a public hearing held before the regular business meeting. The budgets were each approved unanimously in separate votes. Councilwoman Natalie J. Mose was absent.

The town's general fund budget for the upcoming fiscal year is balanced at about $1.7 million, according to a budget document. Some of the largest expenditures include highways and streets ($267,900), long-term capital improvements ($273,660) and the town's police department ($209,742).

More than $328,000 was budgeted for general government expenses, including salaries, administration and the Economic Development Commission.

The general fund budget in fiscal year 2007 was balanced at about $1.3 million.
