Design a car

win $1,500

June 05, 2007|by CHRIS COPLEY

The deadline for submitting designs has been extended to Friday, June 8, in the car-design contest sponsored by Younger Scion in Hagerstown.

What do you want in your ride? Custom paint? Built-in PS3 and high-end computer with Bluetooth technology? A grill? The sky is the limit, according to John Lowry, manager of Younger Scion.

High school juniors and seniors who live in the Tri-State area are eligible to enter the contest by designing a 2008 Scion xB. Entrants must produce a design - on paper, on computer, or three-dimensional - of their customized Scion. Drop off entries at Younger Scion by the close of business June 8. Entries must have name and phone number of designer.

Entries will be displayed June 10 at Valley Mall in Halfway. The winner will be unveiled July 21 at Younger. The winning design will be built as close to the submitted design as possible and offered for sale. The winning designer will receive a $1,500 scholarship to the college of his or her choice.

Entries will be evaluated on concept and execution, but the main thing is to have fun, Lowry said.

"I really want people to have fun with it," said Lowry. "And I'd love it if, (for) the person who won, the money would really make a difference for them."
