Tourney to benefit Lions, museum

The Discovery Station and the Hagerstown Lions Club are cosponsoring a golf tournament fundraiser Monday, July 9, at Beaver Creek Country Club.

The shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m. The tournament is a four-person scramble flighted format with a team minimum handicap of 50. Female golfers are welcome.

Classic cars from the Donald M. Bowman antique car collection will be on display at the golf course.

Contests include longest drive on the designated par 5; closest to the pin on all par-3 holes; and anyone who makes a hole-in-one on a designated hole will win a new 2007 Toyota Corolla.

The tournament will benefit Discovery Station exhibits and operations, and also the Hagerstown Lions Club community projects, said Hagerstown Lions Club member Jim Fritsch.


The tournament will include golfers and nongolfers, who will play in a putting contest on an 18-hole miniature golf course set up on the putting green. The fee for nongolfers is $25, which includes an awards dinner and prizes. The starting time for nongolfers is 3 p.m.

Entry fees for golfers are $80 for individuals, $300 for a foursome and $350 for a foursome with corporate hole sponsorship. The fee includes registration, duffer's bag, greens fee and cart fee, beverage cart, awards dinner, multiple prizes, and range balls at noon. Corporate hole sponsorships cost $100 each.

Business sponsorships are available at three levels: platinum, $1,000; gold, $500; and silver, $250.

Registration forms are available online at; at area golf courses; and at the admissions desk at Discovery Station, 101 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.

The rain date is July 30.
