June 04, 2007

Jameek Booth, a fourth- grader in Anthony McDonald's class at Salem Avenue Elementary School, was chosen as the District 8 winner of the "If I Were Mayor" essay contest.

Jameek, along with his family and teacher, attended a ceremony May 23 in Annapolis featuring Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, during which each winner was awarded a $250 U.S. savings bond, a plaque, a book from the Maryland Municipal League and a citation.

Winners also took a cruise around Annapolis and were given a book for their classroom.

Jameek has been invited to speak before the Hagerstown Mayor and City Council, as well as the Williamsport mayor and Town Council.

There were 2,800 entrants in the contest, from which one winner and four runners-up were chosen from each of the 11 districts.
