Davis, Martinez ignite Suns' victory

May 27, 2007

Leonard Davis hit his eighth home run and tripled while Mike Martinez drove in two runs as the Hagerstown Suns scored a 7-1 victory over Delmarva for their third straight win.

Davis put the Suns on the scoreboard with a two-run shot in the fourth inning and Martinez drove him in after the triple for one of his two RBI in the eighth.

It keyed an offense that supported starter Erik Arnesen, who won in his first start for the Suns. Arnesen allowed an unearned run on five hits before giving way to Joe Welsh, who was making his first appearance for the Suns, and Josh Wilkie.

Delmarva jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third inning.

Robert Andrews hit a one-out double and David Cash singled to put runners on first and third.

Andrews scored when Cash stole second on Brandon Tripp's strikeout and catcher Patrick Nichols' wild throw into the outfield.

Davis put the Suns up 2-1 when he followed Chris Marrero's double with a one-out shot to right off Delmarva starter Jeff Moore.

The Suns put the game away with three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Joe Napoli started the seventh by reaching on an error and Nichols was hit by a pitch before scoring on Martinez's double to center.

After Luis Lebron came on in relief and walked Justin Maxwell to load the bases, Sheldon Fulse hit a grounder to force Nichols at home. But catcher Victor Castillo fired wildly back to third, allowing two more runs to score.
