Memorial Day week observances

A number of observances are planned around Washington County for the Memorial Day holiday.

Today

·The annual Memorial Day service at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at 17636 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown will be at 11 a.m.

Featured guest speakers are state Sen. Don Munson, R-Washington, and Retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Fred L Shinbur.

·The Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Honor Guard will provide the service. Music and complimentary refreshments will be provided.

·A Memorial Day service at Samples Manor Church of God, 2128 Harpers Ferry Road in Sharpsburg will be at 2:30 p.m.

The service will include music by Faith Ministries of Boonsboro and Kenny Johnson & Son of Bunker Hill, W.Va.

· Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 will hold a Memorial Day service at 2 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse in Hagerstown.

The keynote speaker will be Kenneth Conway, past commander and present Washington County commander.

Music will be provided by the Sons of American Legion Squadron 42.

A reception will follow the ceremony at Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 on Northern Avenue.

Monday

·The Beaver Creek and Mount Lena communities will join for a wreath-laying ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Lena United Methodist Church.

Wednesday

·Glenn Fishack will address the history of some of the Smithsburg veterans of all wars who are listed on the plaques at Veterans Park on West Water Street. The event will be at the park at 6 p.m.

There will be a color guard from AMVETS Post 10 and a bagpiper.

Shelter and seating will be available.
