SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg broke a 12-year-old Tri-State record in the boys 3,200-meter relay Friday during the first day of action at the PIAA state championships at Shippensburg University.

Trojans Channon Riggs, Corey Snyder, David Eubanks and Corey Grove combined for a time of 7:51.80 to place second in their heat with the No. 3 overall time of the Class AAA preliminaries, qualifying for today's final.

The previous mark of 7:52.04 was set by Hedgesville in 1995.

The Trojans' splits, in order, were Riggs with a 1:54, Snyder 2:02, Eubanks 1:59 and Grove 1:54.

"Those guys, I tell you what, they're incredible," Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. "We have the kind of crew that could pop off a state championship. We'll see how it goes tomorrow."

York Suburban turned in the top time of the preliminaries at 7:50.96.

Medals are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.
