The Helmans

John and Shirley Helman of Waynesboro, Pa., attended a surprise celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Chambersburg, Pa., on Sunday, May 6, 2007. Hosting the affair were the couple's sons, Marty Helman of Greencastle, Pa., and Rodney and Greg Helman of Waynesboro, and the couple's daughter, Ruby Helman of Waynesboro.

The Helmans were married Easter Sunday, April 21, 1957, at Grace Brethren Church in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Helman is the former Shirley L. Clever of Greencastle.

The couple have seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The Gilliams

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Gilliam of Hagerstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, May 15, 2007. A dinner was held in their honor by their three daughters, Kristy and husband Bob Crites, Sherry and husband Dave Itnyre, and Nancy Gilliam at the Next Dimensions in Funkstown. Danny Sterling, and Margie and Robert Crites also attended.

The Gilliams were married in the home of the late Milt and Louise Lushbaugh by the late Rev. Watlington in 1947.


Mrs. Gilliam is the former Helen T. Lushbaugh, daughter of the late Alice and Lester Lushbaugh. She was a 1945 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She retired in 1991 from Aladdin Awards.

Mr. Gilliam is the son of the late Grace and Herman Gilliam. He worked at Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 1983.

The Gilliams have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
