CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The number of ballots cast so far in early voting for the casino table games referendum in Jefferson County broke the 1,000 mark Thursday, according to the Jefferson County Clerk's Office.
Cherokee Grim, spokeswoman for the county clerk's office, said 223 people voted Thursday in the Jefferson County Courthouse at the corner of George and Washington Streets.
That brings the total of early ballots to 1,064, Grim said.
In the referendum election, county residents are deciding whether Charles Town Races & Slots should be allowed to have casino table games like blackjack and roulette.
Early voting started May 18 and concludes June 6. The election is June 9.
Early voting is being conducted in the Jefferson County Commission meeting chambers on the first floor of the courthouse. Early voting is being offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Grim said.
